Halloween

Halloween is such a fun time when kids are little. There is much debate among the church weather it is a good holiday to celebrate or not. In my opinion I think that it is lots of fun. I do have a rule that the kids may not dress up as anything evil however. I think that it is great for kids to be able to dress as something and pretend to be something for a night. (more on the origin of Halloween later)

Anyway, the boys (well Ben and Jake) were pretty excited about Halloween this year. It was nice that it was on a Saturday but at the same time I think that we heard about 5000 times throughout the day "is it time to go yet?".

Anyway here are some pictures of our darling Luke Skywalker (in the x wing fighter costume), Elephant, and Pumpkin

Have you ever heard of the Halloween fairy? No? Oh let me tell you she is an amazing person. She comes in the evening a few days after halloween with both children and parents concent, swoops up almost all the candy and leaves gifts in its place. The boys were completely fine with this idea and love the gifts that were left and have not thought about the loss of candy once. Ben was given Kung Fu Panda and Jake was given a trip to target to pick out a new car, train or airplane. He picked out a micky mouse matchbox ramp and has been playing with it for hours.

So, here is something interesting I found when researching halloween: Halloween, which comes from the word All Hallows Eve is tied directly to All Saints Day celebrated on November 1 of each year to commemorate the old saints who have past on. These “saints” were heroes and martyrs for the Christian Faith.
